🇺🇸 A Brief History of Independence Day
Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 — when the original 13 colonies officially declared their independence from Great Britain.
That summer, American colonists replaced traditional celebrations of King George III’s birthday with mock funeralsto mark a symbolic break from the British crown.
Two days after the historic vote to sever ties, the colonies ratified the Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson. The first official Independence Day celebration took place in Philadelphia in 1777, even as the Revolutionary War raged on.
Since then, Americans have celebrated with fireworks, concerts, parades, and patriotic displays. But it wasn’t until 1941that Independence Day was formally recognized as a federal holiday.
🎇 Whether you’re enjoying a beachfront flyover or a picnic in the park, Carlsbad and its neighbors have you covered for a memorable Fourth of July 2025!
